Privacy — the Is It AI? screening extension

Text is sent only on an explicit action

Either you click “Screen selection with Is It AI?” in the right-click menu, or you press “Screen text” in the popup. Nothing else ever sends text anywhere.

No automatic page scanning

The extension has no content scripts and never reads a page you are viewing. The only page text it ever sees is the selection you right-clicked on.

One destination only

Text goes to isitai.co.uk/api/v1/scan and nowhere else. There are no analytics, no trackers, and no requests to any third party of any kind.

What is stored

• Your API key, in local extension storage on this computer only. It is deliberately not put in sync storage, which would copy it to every browser signed into your Google account.
• The most recent screening result (including a short snippet of the screened text), in session storage, which is cleared when the browser closes.
• Nothing else. No history of scans, no submitted texts.

On the server side

Submitted text is processed and discarded, as described in our methodology and privacy policy.

What a result means

Results are a screening signal, not proof of authorship. What a result means, and its limits, are set out on the methodology page.
